Vanity Project Issue #15 June 2005

Unknown Component – From Anywhere But Here
Wearied folk-style songwriting sounding as though a result of an aimless eternal stroll. This allows a baffled gentleness to seep beneath the acoustic strum. Caustic beats on ‘Describing A Description Of Distance And Time’ whip up some energy into the bones of the record. ‘No Sound’ also has some nifty flourishes, particularly from guitar, that lie beneath the grit of the MacGowan like drawl. Elsewhere the vocals are a Jazz Coleman like rasping roar, odd considering the over-riding calm.
