“From Anywhere But Here”

From Anywhere But Here is the debut album from little known American artist Keith Lynch, otherwise known as Unknown Component. Lynch describes himself as ‘one individual intent on creating the best music possible’ and this is shown throughout the ten tracks on the CD. The husky vocals displayed on each track are what make this CD different to any other around at the moment and gives the album a gritty, underground feel that will prove to be popular with those who love ‘real’ music. A sombre outlook on life is apparent and this works well for a few tracks on an album but, in my view, if a lighter, less serious tone was deployed in a song or two it would be very beneficial for Unknown Component. Each song seems to blend into the next as tempo rarely changes and only the lyrics separate them. Despite this fact tracks to keep an ear out for include Describing a Description of Distance and Time (try and say that one fast) and Don’t We Got it Made. This is definitely not a ‘feel good’ CD and don’t expect to be full of energy once you’ve finished listening to it but do be ready to be full of inspiration and wisdom. Lynch expresses emotions and intelligence in his lyrics that you would expect from someone much older than this young singer/songwriter. This album lacks a professional feel when it comes to production but in some ways this adds to Lynch’s 40-a-day vocals so he manages to get away with it. Unknown Component is already receiving rave reviews in the United States Mid West and it shouldn’t take long for his music to make it’s way through the States, over the Atlantic and find some kind of place in Britain.
