If you love to watch the day turn to night and sit down to contemplate life, this record would be a good choice to listen to. Unknown Component is the brainchild, solo deal by Keith Lynch from Iowa, based around acoustics and emotion. The aura of the record is slightly depressing and emotional with some uplifting parts (primarily the seldom appearance of drums), such as the long titled “Describing A Description Of Distance And Time” and “Changing Channels.” What I’m more musically accustomed to, vocally it’s Kurt Cobain meets Edsel Dope (minus the intensity) with a quick kick to the throat causing a little raspy/ nasally and almost “sad drunk” singing.If the artist meant for there to be energy in his music, that would happen to be the ‘Unknown Component.’ Don’t get me wrong, each piece to the puzzle for the most part fits. The only thing I would add is a little diversity between songs, yet he does keep a steady, practically unchangeable mood.
