Unknown Component is musician Keith Lynch. Keith is a prolific artist that has self-released several different musical projects in recent years, his latest is, In Direct Communication.
Lynch not only wrote and recorded all of the songs found on In Direct Communication; he also gets credit for the releases cover artwork.
On his MySpace page Lynch list his musical influences as, Bob Dylan, Bright Eyes, Coldplay, The Strokes, Kings of Leon, Elliott Smith, Mason Jennings, Nirvana, The Beatles, Stereophonics and Mando Diao. I could definitely hear elements of, Dylan and Coldplay in his music.
When you hear Lynch’s music the first thing you’ll notice is how the songs are almost like poetry set to music, ranging from introspective and melancholy, to positive and hopeful.
In most of the songs Lynch goes for a soft, but emotional route, with his vocals. Steady drumbeats, solid guitar, and keyboard parts that bring a lush sound to the songs often accompany the vocals.
The main point that I took away after listening to In Direct Communication is that in everyone’s life you’ll face tough situations, and decisions that have to be made, but if you stay true to yourself and keep going on in the end things will work out for the best.
In Direct Communication is a rock solid release that should have the word spreading about Unknown Component from Lynch’s Iowa City, Iowa base outward to the rest of the country.
